This detailed educational study analyzes the intelligence test scores and schoolwork of over 200 students from two small Massachusetts schools in 1921 and 1922. The initial survey revealed significant differences between the schools, including superior performance in all subjects tested from the Cochituate students, an advantage attributed to students with higher reasoning and mathematical aptitude. A second round of testing one year later showed these differences had largely disappeared and, in some areas, had reversed with Wayland students performing better than Cochituate students. Although not directly explained within the text, the author suggests that changes to the school organization and curriculum may have led to these reversed results. The report highlights the value of periodic testing to monitor student progress and the importance of using that data to shape curriculum and teaching methods.
