Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This text examines how environmental factors can impact phenotypic plasticity in plants. The author sets out to determine constants for Aster prenanthoides and to establish these values as place-conditions that can be used for comparison with other populations and specimens. By collecting flower heads three times a week from the same natural area over two seasons, the author is able to eliminate chance variation in the data. The investigation reveals that mean values for bracts, rays, and disk florets change over time with respect to the time of year, and that both mean and variability are affected by climatic changes. As the first investigation to compare changes of variable characters in plants from the same locality over multiple seasons, this book contributes significantly to the knowledge of phenotypic plasticity and the role of climate in plant development.
