It is my belief, and that of many Christians, that the doctrine of life IN christ constitutes that happy mean Of truth, which, lying midway between two extremes of error, forms the only safe resting-place for the troubled mind, neither exaggerating the severity of God until it tends to incredulity, nor on the other hand venturing, as do the advocates of Universalism, to empty the Divine threats of their legitimate meaning.
