This book is an examination of a set of ancient Greek New Testament manuscripts held by the Harvard University library, known by their collection number as 666 and e 1293 in the Gregory-Aland and von Soden catalogues respectively. These manuscripts date from before the twelfth century and contain the Christian Gospels in Greek. The author has consulted two previous scholars' descriptions of the manuscript, created in 1888 and 1889 by Carl Rudolf Gregory, to inform their own analysis. The author has carefully compared the manuscript to the generally accepted received text, which forms the traditional basis for the study of the New Testament in its original Greek. Significant deviations have been noted, most often in the form of corrections made by a later hand to bring the text in line with the received text. Nonetheless, the manuscript also contains some pre-Syrian readings, which offer valuable and unusual insights into the development of the New Testament text in the period immediately after it was first written. The author contextualises the manuscript within the work of von Soden, an eminent twentieth-century scholar of New Testament textual criticism, who deemed the manuscript a valuable witness to the text type he called K, suggesting a close relationship with other known manuscripts such as 661, 1027, and 1126. The author concludes by discussing the significance of the text's insights and its contribution to the complex and enduring debate over the origins and development of the New Testament.
