Synopsis
A portrait, past and present of Oxford City and surrounding villages, and the University, with their institutions, buildings, gardens and streets; their history, traditions and events; and the people who have brought them to life. The encyclopaedia comprises some 120 entries, each written by an expert on that particular aspect of Oxford, organized alphabetically and fully cross-referenced. It is a source of information and anecdote for students and historians. The author, winner of the Heineman Award for Literature, wrote "London: The Biography Of A City ", "A Social History of England" and this book's companion volume "The London Encyclopaedia".
