The hero, Christopher Barrington, looks back to his boyhood and recalls the intrigues that happened in the huge house at Belting. This crime novel is from the same author as "The Colour of Murder" and "The End of Solomon Grundy" and he is the Crime Fiction reviewer for "The Independent".
