The makers of this dictionary have approached the leading opera historians and critics throughout the world and aim to choose the best writer on each and every topic: scholars who have worked on the composers they are treating and critics who know the works and the artists they are discussing through actual experience in the opera house. The book includes: more than 1800 entries on individual operas of up to 3000 words in length each, 2500 entries on singers and performers, entries for over 3000 composers who have made a contribution of any significance to the literature of opera, articles of all the great opera houses of the world, a series of articles on producers, directors and designers, entries on librettists, and articles on the history and terminology of opera, voice types and vocal terms. By the author of "The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians".

FOUR LARGE AND HEAVY VOLUMES OF THE NEW GROVE DICTIONARY OF OPERA, EDITED BY STANLEY SADIE & CHRISTINA BASHFORD. All four volumes are hardback books, each bound in a burgundy coloured cloth, with gilt titles set within a black blocked box, positioned nicely at the top part of the spine, with each of the four books covering the following sections: Volume One - A-D, Volume Two - E-LOM, Volume Three - LON-ROD, Volume Four - ROE-Z. All four volumes are in near fine condition and as they are used books, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. In my humble opinion I would say the four volumes have hardly been read or used. All pages intact and all books have nice tight bindings, all pages have a nice gilt edge to top of papers. Volume One has 1296 pages, Volume Two has 1315 pages, Volume Three has 1371 pages, and Volume Four has 1342. Please note these four books weigh a considerable amount when packaged properly therefore for overseas buyers postage/shipping will increase from listed postage/shipping price. Published by Macmillan Press Limited, London in 1992, First Edition. The New Grove Dictionary of Opera is the fourth, and the last, of the family of multi-volume specialist dictionaries to have developed from The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, (1980). A comprehensive set of four volumes that would grace any stylish library, ideal for all Opera & Music connoisseurs. N° de réf. du vendeur 2024
