While universities have been concerned about educating their students, traditionally they have tended to neglect the development of their staff. This is now changing, and this book charts the directions that have been taken and the possibilities for the future.
Staff development is now recognized as one of the most significant vehicles for change in higher education. It has moved from the periphery to the centre, and is a key feature in all strategic planning. This book suggests why staff development is important now and shows how it contributes to the development both of institutions and of staff as individuals. Angela Brew and the contributors examine the current state of the art of staff development, and place it in the context of other developments in higher education.
