Synopsis
Children's health is usually studied in relation to health services, and their learning within the school service. And traditionally children are perceived as the objects of these services. Yet health experience crosses institutional settings, and takes place at home too. And children have their own views on health maintenance and are active in the project of their own lives.
This book reverses traditional approaches and considers children's views on health care and their experiences of the home and school as sites for health maintenance, restoration and promotion.

* How do sociological insights like feminism and the sociology of the body help in the task of siting children within sociology?
Children, Health and the Social Order draws on a number of studies carried out by the author, and in particular on a study in one primary school of children's, parents' and school staff's understandings of child health maintenance and care.
The study of children as a social group provides a wider sociological context of the book which explores, using feminist insights, the construction of knowledge, body-mind links and the division of labour. It will be of interest to professionals in child health and education as well as students of sociology, anthropology, education and health.
