The first impression was published in New York in 1967. However, this book is noteworthy as it is actually the UK first edition, first impression - a first edition thus. The copy is in nice, clean condition with fresh pink boards; it is tight, square, and bright. The pages are excellent and free of any inscriptions, except for my own pencil notes regarding the edition status on the front free endpaper. The book comes with a price-clipped dust jacket, which is also in clean and bright condition, with only a tiny rub at the top left corner of the front panel. The book has xiii + 225 pages. Summary : Louis-Ferdinand Céline, whose full name is Louis-Ferdinand Destouches, was born on May 27, 1894, in Courbevoie, near Paris, France, and died on July 1, 1961, in Meudon. He was a French writer and physician known for his talent but also infamous for his anti-Semitism and misanthropy. Celine received his medical degree in 1924 and traveled extensively on medical missions for the League of Nations. In 1928, he opened a practice in a suburb of Paris while writing in his spare time. He gained fame with his first novel, 'Voyage au bout de la nuit' (1932; 'Journey to the End of Night'), which tells the story of a man's tortured and hopeless search for meaning. The novel is characterized by a vehement and disjointed writing style, marking Céline as a major innovator of 20th-century French literature. He followed this work with 'Mort a credit' (1936; 'Death on the Installment Plan'), which offers a similarly bleak portrayal of a world stripped of value, beauty, and decency. (Source: Britannica).
