Against this background of technical development and innovation, the author recounts the exploits of the Royal Flying Corps airmen and of the French, German, Italian and American airforces. Richard Townsend Bickers has written 13 novels about the RFC under the pseudonym Richard Leslie, 22 novels about the RAF under his own name and a biography called "Ginger Lacey, Fighter Pilot", 1962.
