Synopsis
An examination of different modes of non-fiction writing designed for GCSE/Standard Grade English students. Included in the book are samples of autobiography, travel and reportage, description, journalistic investigation, and persuasive and discursive writing. Such famous names as Martha Gellhorn, Primo Levi, Gloria Steinem and Hanif Kureishi, among others, are discussed. Each unit of the book also contains a choice of ideas for group discussion and for class follow-up, as well as suggestions for written assignments suitable for GCSE and Standard Grade coursework. Ideas for wider study are also provided in the extension section of each unit.
