The story of an ex-used car salesman, a beautiful woman and a dangerous book that nearly destroys them both.

Ex-used car salesman Harold Dodge can't resist helping his beautiful co-worker Marianna to retrieve her car from a low-life dealer - a con-man not unlike the 'bird dog' Harold used to be. But what should have been a straightforward exchange begins to get out of hand... Bird Dog is a sharply observed, witty and affectionate look at the absurd criminal underworld of LA from a talent with a real future.
Philip Reed began his writing career as a night police reporter for the City News Bureau of Chicago and later for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver. He has written several plays which have been staged in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York. He has lived in New England and LA and now lives in California, with his family. Bird Dog is his first novel.

Signed by author Philip Reed directly on the title page; In Bird Dog, Philip Reed tells the story of a WWI veteran, Bob Lee Swagger, who is forced to retire from the Army after he is injured in combat. Swagger, who is often called "the Bird Dog," is determined to find a way to get back into the fight, and he finds his way back into the Army as a trainer of military dogs. Swagger's training techniques, which focus on the use of dogs to find and track objects and people, become legendary, and he is eventually called back to combat. Reed tells the story of Swagger's wartime experiences and his efforts to lead a normal life after the war, all the while keeping his training skills sharp.; 8vo; Signed by Author.
