Revue de presse

These two valuable books address the English National Curriculum requirements for teaching at Key Stage 2 & 3 (book 1) and Key Stage 4 (book 2). There is flexibility in the framework of these books giving investigative techniques which can be transferred from one play to another. The extracts cover more than ten of the most popular plays each and offer an excellent selection of source material for widening the area of study...Aimed at the English teacher rather than the drama teacher and written by experienced English and Drama teachers, they are nevertheless user friendly for any teachers interested in widening their range of Shakepeare resource material. (Speech and Drama, Vol 49, No 2 2001-09-01)

These texts are a valuable addition to any drama teacher's library and will assist planning and implementation for both new and experienced teachers of drama. Familiar activities and exercises are given a novel twist and are clearly contextualised. The activities have been adapted to suit the ages and interests of the students. The photocopiable student worksheets are interesting and useful and, most valuable of all, the sequential and developmental frameworks provide a basis for extended and in-depth study. ..these books will save hours of time in preparation and have the potential to inspire further adaptations and explorations of a whole range of dramatic texts, not only those of The Bard. Présentation de l'éditeur

This text offers an approach to teaching Shakespeare along with photocopiable resources. Different elements of Shakespeare's language, characterization and drama are introduced, revisited and investigated by pupils, while oral, written and dramatic activities build confidence in reading and understanding Shakespeare in context. The teaching framework draws on extracts from up to ten plays and the book offers specific teaching schemes for "Twelfth Night", "Romeo and Juliet" and "Macbeth". Units of work and activities are transferable from one play to another, so they can be used independently of the suggested framework to complement the teacher's plan and choice of texts.
