First published in 1979, the NIV is the world's bestselling contemporary Bible translation. More than 100 scholars from diverse denominational backgrounds worked for 15 years to complete the translation. Their main concern was to be faithful to the text of Scripture, and to reflect the literary and stylistic diversity within the Bible. The result is suitable both for private study and public reading. Sponsored by IBS, a portion of the selling price of every NIV Bible goes towards their work Dr Kenneth Barker was one of the original translators of the NIV. He is a lay minister and author of numerous works concerning Bible translation and a wide range of other Bible-related topics.
