Cultural information sections give useful advice and information for anyone planning a trip to Germany. Retaining the tried and tested structure of the lessons, the course has been updated to reflect changes such as the introduction of the euro. It also now contains six tests to enable learners to check their progress and review areas of difficulty, an English-German vocabulary alongside the existing German-English one, and a "taking it further" section to direct reader to further sources of real German.

Paul Coggle is an experienced university teacher of German, who has taught courses from beginners to postgraduate level. He was a pioneer in the development and use of multimedia language learning materials at the University of Kent, and has acted as a Language Consultant for the BBC and the University of Cambridge Language Centre. He is series editor for the Teach Yourself language courses. Heiner Schenke was born in Hannover and is a native speaker of German. He has taught German at university level for many years and is currently teaching at the University of Westminster.
