Synopsis
Imagine what it would be like if your thoughts weren't the only ones in your head. And what if you had nine different personalities, all vying for your attention? Ruth has lived with other people in her head since she was four years old. She splintered off into different selves when her grandfather began sexually abusing her. It was her way of coping with the dreadful things she endured at home. But then her home life deteriorated; her father began abusing her too and her mother suffered severe mental illness. The worse things got, the more personalities Ruth created in order to try and escape her life. Ruth eventually left home and dedicated her life to helping others. She learnt to manage her condition until a few years ago when her defences ruptured and she had a breakdown. After years of hard work, Ruth recovered and now helps others suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder. Fractured is the story of a life torn apart by abuse and a remarkable woman who pieced herself back together again.

Ruth Dee is married and has three grown up children. Until five years ago she had worked in education all her life. She now collaborates with psychologists working on Multiple Personality Disorder and lectures student nurses on how to diagnose the condition.
