Mass Market Paperback. Etat : Good. The Brothers Hildebrandt (Cover Art) (illustrateur). First Thus. This is the original Argosy-Allstory Weekly pulp magazine text published in 1927. A white baby named Andy MacDuff is captured in a raid by the great Apache chief, Geronimo, adopted by the Indian leader, and raised by his youngest wife. The boy grows up such an expert hunter that he kills a black bear when he is only ten years old, and receives the name Shoz-Dijiji, the Black Bear. As he grows to young manhood he becomes an expert fighter, and falls in love with a beautiful Indian maiden named Ish-kay-nay. But only his adoptive father - and his deadliest enemy - knew that Shoz-Dijiji was not an Apache by birth, but sprang from the white men he despised. The War Chief (1927) was one of four western novels penned by Edgar Rice Burroughs, creator of Tarzan. The other three are Apache Devil" (1933), "The Bandit of Hell's Bend" (1926), and "The Deputy Sheriff of Comanche County" (1940). Paperback has complete cover with reading creases in and along spine. Cover has check-mark on spine and stain on front cover. Interior is tight, clean and text is unmarked. "20" in permanent ink marked on ffep. Copyright 1964 (renewed?). Stated printed in the U.S.A.
