REDUCING STRESS IS EASIER WHEN YOU MASTER NEW SKILLS--ONE AT A TIME! - and - It is impossible to control the environment around us. An overwhelmed parent cannot prevent the dog from barking, the kids from fighting, or a neighbor from ringing the doorbell. The student will always have to take exams. The policeman must face unknown danger, and the executive must continually deal with new responsibilities. But we can limit the ill effects of stress by taking control of the environment within ourselves and of our own reactions to stressful situations. Stress is not caused by the environment outside ourselves. Stress is the result of our reaction to the outer environment.
