'Fascinating . . . shows how to put humans and the digital together to create credible and exciting solutions' Martha Lane Fox
'One of the rare books capable of making an impact on society. It's the most exciting thing I've read in years' Frederic Laloux, Reinventing Organisations
'A timely thought-provoking read. Cottam's track record in changing lives makes her worth listening to' Camilla Cavendish
One of the most important things in life is our relationships: they can enhance and change our lives.
This engaging and visionary book shows us that this fact is as true in state systems as it is in intimate interactions: only when we have systems that enable and foster human connection will we rise to the challenges that face us in the 21st century.
Hilary Cottam is one of our foremost social thinkers and actors and she has a radical approach. Starting in the lives and homes of those who face every day struggles - teenage depression, poor health, a lack of good work or a lonely old age - she asks people what they would do, with help and collaboration, to design a better way forward.
We can recover the original and powerful intention behind the welfare state with Cottam's six simple ideas offered here: crucial shifts in the way we can think about welfare. At the heart of these new systems are human relationships - the simple bonds with one another that enable us all to flourish.
Radical Help cuts to the very essence of how we should live today.
