Paperback. Etat : Used. In a world where the grass is always greener on the other side, David Dawson?s ?Vet In The Paddock? invites you to step into the muddy boots of a veterinarian navigating the peculiar and often comical world of livestock medicine. This 1978 classic, published by A Star Book, promises to reveal the unfiltered, unvarnished truths about life in the paddock?a place where the animals might be more civilized than their human counterparts. If you?ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the life of a vet, prepare to have your curiosity tickled (or perhaps downright ruffled) in ways you never anticipated. Set against the charming backdrop of English countryside life, this novel is a curious blend of hilarity and mayhem. Picture it: a world where the drama of animal antics competes with the hilarious follies of their caretakers. The narrative spins a tale punctuated by the kind of absurd situations that make you question whether it?s the animals or the humans who are truly in charge. With every page, readers are treated to a cavalcade of quirky characters, each more eccentric than the last?think of it as ?Animal Hospital? meets ?Fawlty Towers,? but with more mud and fewer health and safety regulations. Now, let?s indulge in the utterly bizarre assortment of topics you might encounter within these pages. Prepare yourself for tales that are as educational as they are ludicrous, including: The trials of administering questionable home remedies to stubborn sheep. A horse with a flair for dramatics who manages to outsmart everyone around him. A parade of disgruntled farmers convinced their livestock hold the keys to their fortunes. The unforeseen dilemmas that arise during a routine hoof trimming (spoiler: it never goes as planned). Heartwarming moments that will leave you chuckling and scratching your head in disbelief. Throughout ?Vet In The Paddock,? Dawson?s deft storytelling makes the case for why a career in veterinary medicine is not for the faint-hearted. The anecdotes are crammed with enough chaos to make even the most seasoned professional reconsider their life choices?after all, when your daily routine involves dealing with creatures that have a penchant for mischief, the line between sanity and calamity blurs rather amusingly. Who knew that a simple visit to a farm could spiral into a series of unfortunate events that would make even the most seasoned prankster proud? And if you?re thinking this book is merely a light-hearted romp through the countryside, think again! Dawson manages to weave in some surprising depth, exploring themes of friendship, loyalty, and the sometimes bizarre bond between a vet and their utterly uncooperative patients. It?s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit?though it?s mostly a celebration of how absurd life can be when you?re knee-deep in hay and horse medicine. Condition: Used, because we believe every second-hand book holds a story of its own?much like the tales narrated within these pages. Expect a certain rustic charm, complete with dog-eared pages, the smell of something vaguely reminiscent of a barn, and perhaps a few scribbles from previous owners pondering the existential crisis of a particularly obstinate pig. If you?re looking for perfection, you?re barking up the wrong tree. But if you?re ready to embrace the quirks and imperfections that make life?and books?truly interesting, then this is the book for you. So, whether you?re a budding veterinarian, a lover of animals, or simply someone who enjoys tales that highlight the idiosyncrasies of rural life, ?Vet In The Paddock? is an unexpected treasure waiting to be discovered. It might just convince you that the best stories come from the chaotic interactions between man and beast. Don?t say we didn?t warn you! Grab your copy from Crappy Old Books and prepare for a read that?s anything but ordinary. N° de réf. du vendeur 2210
