Excerpt from Dances of Rumania: Published Under the Auspices of the Royal Academy of Dancing and the Ling Physical Education Association
IT was the International Folk Dance Festival held in London in the summer of 1935 which awakened attention to the pagan splendour and rhythmic subtlety of Rumanian ritual dancing. A paper read at the accompanying conference by Professor Vuia opened the eyes of the anthropological world to the extreme importance of these Spring dances. The Times music critic at one of the performances wrote of the ''delighted but slightly uneasy audience'', wondering when, yet fearing, the thirteen Rumanian dancers would stop. According to the same paper these men ''roused the chief anthropological interest by the ritual completeness of their immense, over whelming dance Galusari''.
