Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book posits that logging and slash burning in municipal watersheds ought to be considered with far greater scrutiny in light of their capacity to negatively impact physical soil properties. The author presents a revelatory case study of three distinct soil types in the Oregon Coast Range following logging and slash burning. The author finds that while overall effects on soil properties were negligible, severely burned areas did exhibit statistically significant alterations in texture, organic matter, and moisture retention, all of which heighten a soil's susceptibility to erosion. Though severely burned areas were uncommon, comprising merely 8% of the total area studied, the author emphasizes that their increased risk of erosion warrants the implementation of judicious slash-burning practices and thorough post-burn erosion control strategies.
