Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles an experiment in pasture improvement conducted from 1923 to 1928. The author sought to demonstrate how best to improve permanent pastures too steep to plow and reseed. The experiment compared the effects of various fertilizer and lime treatments, seed mixtures, and cultivation methods on pasture yields and the composition of pasture vegetation. The author found that the most effective treatment was a combination of manure, superphosphate, and lime. This treatment produced the highest yields and the greatest improvement in the kind of pasture grasses thriving on such plots. Without lime, the treatment was not nearly as effective. The author concludes that pastures of this type should be top dressed with lime and superphosphate. In most cases, a simple seed mixture should be added, and the land, if not too rough, may be disked or harrowed.
