Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the extensive collection of laws, customs, and regulations that govern the Tamil people of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Compiled in 1707 under Dutch rule, this collection provides invaluable insights into the social and legal framework of the time. The Tesawalamai is a comprehensive guide to inheritance, property division, marriage customs, and debt management. It reflects the influence of both Hindu and Dutch legal traditions, offering a unique perspective on the evolution of law in a multicultural setting. The book's detailed examination of inheritance and property rights sheds light on the complex social structures and economic practices of the Tamil community. Furthermore, its insights into marriage customs and dowry practices provide a glimpse into the gender roles and familial relationships of the period. Ultimately, this book serves as a valuable resource for understanding the historical and cultural context of the Tamil people and their legal traditions.
