Synopsis
This book is a vocabulary and collection of the Giriama language, which is spoken by a tribe whose habitat is just to the north of Mombasa, about 39° East longitude and 3° South latitude, and entirely within the sphere of British influence. The author, a missionary of the Church Missionary Society, made use of his opportunities to make this contribution to science, collecting vocabulary and examples of genuine language-specimens, accompanied by translations. The book constitutes a very creditable performance, and will no doubt contribute to translations of portions of the Holy Scriptures, and of religious and educational works into the Giriama language.
