Li is a teacher of Chinese/English language, a researcher in languages, cultures and learning styles, and a scholar seeking to bridge gaps in cultures, ideologies, theories and practices for collaborative and harmonious learning and teaching. She is a former senior lecturer in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies at RMIT University, Australia.
