Sent to a remote part of India to find out who could benefit from Judge Asif's death, Ghote can get no cooperation from the judge until it becomes evident that the anonymous threats are coming from someone in the judge's household. Henry Reymond Fitzwalter Keating (31 October 1926 27 March 2011) was an English crime fiction writer most notable for his series of novels featuring Inspector Ghote of the Bombay CID. He worked as a journalist on The Daily Telegraph. He was the crime books reviewer for The Times for 15 years. He was chairman of the Crime Writers' Association (CWA) (197071), chairman of the Society of Authors (198384) and president of the Detection Club (19852000). He was a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He received the George N. Dove Award in 1995. In 1996 the CWA awarded him the Cartier Diamond Dagger for outstanding services to crime literature. From a description found on-line: Inspector Ghote Draws a Line, a 1979 mystery novel by H.R.F. Keating in his acclaimed series about the Bombay police inspector, follows Ghote to a remote part of India. The premise centers on the detective attempting to guard a shrewd judge who has received death threats but refuses to take them seriously. Inspector Ghote is tasked with finding out who is sending threats to Judge Asif, officially disguised as a helper for the judge's memoirs. The investigation stalls until it becomes clear that the culprit is likely within the judge's own household. The story is noted for its vivid, atmospheric depiction of rural India. As with many Inspector Ghote stories, the novel combines a mystery plot with character-driven comedy and social commentary, often focusing on the struggles of the honest but "little" Inspector Ghote.
