Like Howard Hughes, William Fisk Harrah was an empire builder in the gaming industry. Harrah was a pioneer who started out with a California bingo parlor in the 1930s. He moved to the more comfortable climate of Nevada and became an important player in Reno and Lake Tahoe. Harrah was a thinker and a doer, who also happened to be a player, womanizer, and a blunt forceful person. He died in his 60s and created an image that remains to this very day.
