THE DEFINITIVE WORK OF AMERICAN TRUE CRIME FROM "AMERICA'S BEST TRUE-CRIME WRITER" (Kirkus Reviews)
Utterly unique in its astonishing intimacy, as jarringly frightening as when it first appeared, Ann Rule's The Stranger Beside Me defies our expectation that we would surely know if a monster lived among us, worked alongside of us, appeared as one of us. With a slow chill that intensifies with each heart-pounding page, Rule describes her dawning awareness that Ted Bundy, her sensitive coworker on a crisis hotline, was one of the most prolific serial killers in America. He would confess to killing at least thirty-six young women from coast to coast, and was eventually executed for three of those cases. Drawing from their correspondence that endured until shortly before Bundy's death, and striking a seamless balance between her deeply personal perspective and her role as a crime reporter on the hunt for a savage serial killer -- the brilliant and charismatic Bundy, the man she thought she knew -- Rule changed the course of true-crime literature with this unforgettable chronicle.
Ann Rule is the author of thirty New York Times bestsellers, all of them still in print. Her first bestseller was The Stranger Beside Me, about her personal relationship to infamous serial killer Ted Bundy. A former Seattle police officer, she knows the crime scene firsthand. For more than two decades, she has been a powerful advocate for victims of violent crime. She lives near Seattle. Visit her at AuthorAnnRule.com.

Cloth. Etat : VG+. Etat de la jaquette : VG. First Edition Later Printing. The groundbreaking debut book that would launch Ann Rule's career as the queen of the true crime genre. It details her relationship with Ted Bundy while both worked at a Seattle crisis hotline, where, unknown to her, he was actually the violent serial murderer of young Washington women whom she was investigating as a reporter. Bundy was still alive on Florida's death row when she wrote this, & she refers to him as "like the younger brother I had lost.'' A FIRST EDITION, Second Printing, from 1989, this small quarto (6.5" x 9.5") has gray paper over quarter black cloth-covered boards, lettered in gilt. In 350 pages, no photos (these were not added until later editions). Condition is VG+: completely clean, just lacks that brand new crispness, with dust dulling to outside page edges. Binding is strong, with a slight rightward lean. Pages lightly tanned but completely unmarked save for former owner's bookplate to ffep. The unclipped DJ (no price, but no BOMC blurb either, & no emboss to rear board) is VG, with light chipping & creasing to extremities.
