Karen Brewer has been a faculty member at Hamilton College since 1989, and was named to the Silas D. Childs Professorship in Agricultural Chemistry in 2017. She earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Brewer directs undergraduate summer and senior research projects that focus on synthesizing and characterizing materials containing rare earth ions with unique spectroscopic properties. Beyond her research and teaching, Dr. Brewer serves as chair of the Chemistry Department and associate dean of students for academics and works in the Higher Education Opportunity Program and on Hamilton’s current grant core team.
