John English is a professor of history at the University of Waterloo.  His first volume of the life of Lester Pearson (1897 - 1948), Shadow of Heaven, won the Canadian Historical Association's Sir John A. Macdonald Prize and the Canadian Authors' Association Literary Award for Non-Fiction.
