Book by Irving John

Fred 'Bogus' Trumper is a wayward knight-errant in the battle of the sexes and the pursuit of happiness. He also happens to have a complaint more serious than Portnoy's. Yet he stubbornly clings to the notion that he'll make something of his life, and is about to commit himself to a second marriage that bears remarkable resemblance to his first.
The Water-Method Man is a work of consummate artistry and comic invention, bizarre imagery and sharp social and psychological observation.
"Brutal reality and hallucination, comedy and pathos. A rich, unified tapestry" (Time)
"John Irving, it is abundantly clear, is a true artist. He is not afraid to take on great themes" (Los Angeles Times)
"John Irving has been compared with Kurt Vonnegut and J. D. Salinger, but is arguably more inventive than either" (The Times)
"Three or four times as funny as most novels" (The New Yorker)

Hardcover. Etat : Very Good-. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 365 pages; 1972 Random House. HC/DJ 1st edition, 1st printing. Bound in publisher's half blue cloth over yellow paper-covered boards, the latter pictorially embossed. Publisher's "H" ink stamp to the front endpaper, denoting a warehouse "hurt" copy subsequently sold at a retail discount. The defect in this case appears to be a short ½-inch tear at the base of the spine, visible in both cloth and jacket. Mild dust spotting to the top edge of the text block; jacket shows only light shelf evidence with a tiny closed tear to the top edge of the rear panel. Publisher's $6.95 issue price intact to unclipped front flap. Irving's second novel after "Setting Free the Bears." A bright and solid example overall, with the unusual "distinction" of its post-printing, pre-distribution "hurt" status. VG-/VG. N° de réf. du vendeur 57783
