Sedimentary Structures - Couverture souple

9780412445606: Sedimentary Structures

Synopsis

This successful introduction to sedimentary structures has been thoroughly revised. Retaining the field- and laboratory-orientated approach of the first edition, the authors have rewritten considerable sections on the properties of fluids and flows, sands and sandstones, gravels and conglomerates, structures of chemical and biological origin, and deformation structures. These revisions take account of advances in experimental work and of a deeper appreciation and aeolian, shallow marine, volcaniclastic, carbonate and mass-flow processes which has often resulted from studies of the ancient rock record. As in the first edition, there is an engaging emphasis on the methodology and processes whereby scientific understanding is achieved. The problem-recognition, problem-solving approach of the data-response exercises is retained and augmented. This new edition of a comprehensive, authoritative and well illustrated treatment of a group of highly significant geological features will be welcomed by students of sedimentology at all levels, and as before, it will also prove useful to other geologists, both professional and amateur. This book should be of interest to all levels of undergraduate students of sedimentology.
