Commonly regarded as Husserl's greatest and most important work, Logical Investigations sketches the basic grammar of conscious experience in a manner never before or since surpassed. In this work Husserl defends the view of philosophy as an a priori discipline, in contrast to psychology.
This English translation, first published in 1970 by J. N. Findlay, makes available to a wider audience a work that remains not only the necessary foundation of Husserl's copious writings, but offers illuminating insights to those who approach the problems of meaning and the nature of logic from the Anglo-American analytic and linguistic tradition.
Since the world is celebrating the centennial of the original German edition (1900–1901), it is significant that Findlay's excellent translation is now again available.
Edmund Husserl (1859-1938), founder of the school of phenomenology, taught philosophy at Halle, G÷ttingen, and Freiburg, and had a great influence on subsequent philosophy in Germany and America.
