Posing as a Cambridge professor the Master intends to use Kronos in his evil quest for power. To stop him, the Doctor and Jo must journey back in time to Ancient Atlantis and to a terrifying confrontation within the Time Vortex itself. But can even the Doctor save himself from the awesome might of the Time Monster? A Third Doctor Unit-era adventure, The Time Monster sends the 3rd Doctor and Jo Grant in pursuit of the Master's attempt to harness Kronos a powerful Chronovore capable of consuming time itself. The story mixes mythology, metaphysics, and large-scale time-travel concepts while expanding the rivalry between the Doctor and the Master through one of the Pertwee era's most ambitious storylines. Originally broadcast in 1972, The Time Monster incorporated Greek mythology and Atlantean legend into Doctor Who continuity, with Kronos standing as one of the more unusual cosmic entities in classic Doctor Who history. This first edition No. 102 in the Target Doctor Who Library features cover artwork by Andrew Skilleter, whose painted visual style is closely associated with mid-1980s Target paperbacks and remains popular among collectors of the Target range.
