Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines sulfur in coal through in-depth analysis of its forms and presence, offering a multifaceted perspective on coal composition. The author examines historical coal formation theories to establish a baseline for understanding coal's composition, and then delves into the various methods scientists have used to analyze coal. These include destructive distillation, solvent extraction, and oxidation methods. A detailed look at the research of E. Guignet, an early investigator of nitric acid's effect on coal, is highlighted to demonstrate the historical evolution of coal analysis techniques. The book's original research centers on the extraction of coal using organic solvents, particularly phenol. It compares the extracted sulfur content with the theoretically predicted organic sulfur content and finds discrepancies, leading to a discussion of potential explanations, including the presence of unknown inorganic sulfur forms or inaccuracies in the standard of comparison used to calculate organic sulfur. The author concludes that while phenol extraction is a useful technique for studying coal's organic sulfur compounds, it may not extract all of them. The discovery of unanticipated sulfur forms and the need for further research are emphasized, highlighting the book's significance in expanding our knowledge of coal composition and informing future investigations into this essential energy source. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9780428032494_0
