Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book dives into the fascinating and complex history of the Wisconsinan Stage, the last major episode of Pleistocene glaciation in North America. The author, a leading expert in the field, meticulously examines the time-stratigraphic classification of this period, presenting a revised framework for understanding the glacial events that shaped the landscape of the Lake Michigan glacial lobe. Through detailed stratigraphic studies and the utilization of radiocarbon dating, the author unveils a more refined understanding of the Wisconsinan Stage, dividing it into five distinct substages: Valderan, Twocreekan, Woodfordian, Farmdalian, and Altonian. These substages represent major periods of glacial advance and retreat, each with its own unique geological characteristics and time-span. The book also introduces a new concept, morphostratigraphic classification, which allows for the analysis of moraines ââ â the landforms left behind by glaciers ââ â based on their surface form rather than just their lithology. This innovative approach offers valuable insights into the dynamic nature of glacial retreat and the complex interplay between ice sheets and the Earthââ â¢s surface. The authorââ â¢s groundbreaking research provides a comprehensive and meticulously researched account of the Wisconsinan Stage, offering valuable insights for geologists, environmental scientists, and anyone interested in the dramatic forces that shaped the Earthââ â¢s past. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9780428096090_0
