The author, an experienced geologist, presents their findings on the distribution of coal seams in the Spring Hill District, outside of the areas already known to contain workable seams. The author's detailed survey of the geological structure of the area suggests that two coal basins exist in the eastern part of the Cumberland field. The author's explorations and analysis indicate the potential for workable coal seams in twenty-four of the twenty-eight square miles owned by the Association, with particular attention given to the Upper Macan, East Brook, Intercolonial, and Black River areas. The Black River property is identified as a coal measure trough with known seams, where the majority of the area is likely underlaid by the Black River and Styles seam groups. The author concludes that the continuation of the Spring Hill seams in the Upper Macan valley would greatly increase the value of the Association's property in that area. This book provides valuable insights into the geology of the Cumberland coal field and the potential for coal mining in the Association's properties, making it a valuable resource for geologists, mining engineers, and anyone interested in the history of coal mining in Nova Scotia.
