The synthesis of vitamin Bl was a great step in the advancement of the science of nutrition, one which cpened the way for controlled and extensive re search. Mccollum's water-soluble B is now separated into vitamin El and the vitamin Bg complex which includes ribo flavin, nicotinic acid, pyridoxine, and pantothenic acid, all of which are clearly differentiated as to chemical properties and specific physiological functions.
