Hardback. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. First Edition. VICTORIA CROSS BATTLES Of The Second World War. C. E. Lucas Phillips. Heinemann Ltd., London 1973 First Edition ISBN 0434436585 292pp Illustrated Hardback. This copy is in fine unmarked condition bound in green cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. The unclipped dust wrapper in near fine condition and has been covered in clear, removable, protective film. This is an otherwise unremarkable and fairly common title. What makes it unique is that it has been signed by no less than seven Victoria Cross holders. The book came from the library of a medal collector and was one of a significant number of books on the Victoria Cross. The previous owner was also a member of the book trade and I think it is safe to assume that these signatures were appended possibly when the publisher launched the book. The signatures are of Godfrey Place VC RN (1921-1994), Philip Gardner VC, 4th Royal Tank Regt. (1914-2003), Freddie West VC RAF (1896-1988), H R B Foote 7th Royal Tank Regiment (1904-1993), Ian Edward Fraser VC RN (1920-2003), Jackie Smyth VC Indian Army (1893-1983), Henry Edward Kenny VC 1st Loyal North Lancs (1888-1979) The signatures are undated and there are no other dedications.
