Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Janet Ahlberg (illustrateur). This is a complete, authentic copy of the beloved interactive children's classic The Jolly Postman or Other People's Letters by Janet Ahlberg (illustrator) and Allan Ahlberg (author). First published in 1986 by William Heinemann Ltd (an imprint of Reed Consumer Books Ltd), this edition retains the original high-quality format that made the book famous: hardcover with pictorial boards, 48 pages including multiple built-in envelopes, and all the delightful removable letters, cards, catalog, postcard, and special inserts. This specific copy is a later reprint from 1997. Produced by Tien Wah Press (Pte) Ltd. and printed and bound in Singapore. ISBN: 0 434 92515 2 (original UK Heinemann edition - not a modern abridged or cheap reprint). Condition Very Good / Good+ for a well-loved children's interactive book of this age (approximately 28-30 years old). The binding remains tight and intact with no loose pages. Moderate wear to the spine ends and edges, light rubbing to the pictorial boards, and some surface marks/scuffs consistent with repeated reading and handling by children. Interior pages are clean with no major tears, large creases, or soiling. All envelopes are present and undamaged. Crucially, every single original interactive element is complete and included ? no missing pieces, which is rare for this title as letters are frequently lost over time. No inscriptions, bookplates, library stamps, or ownership marks. Full Contents - All Original Inserts Present The Jolly Postman delivers letters to famous fairy-tale characters in this innovative rhyming story. Every envelope contains the actual removable correspondence: -Goldilocks' handwritten-style letter to Mr and Mrs Bear (Three Bears' Cottage) -The full Hobgoblin Supplies Ltd mail-order catalog -The Giant's colorful airmail postcard from the Magic Carpet Tour (with illustrations of fairy-tale destinations). -Special 2-piece Cinderella set in its dedicated envelope: a formal letter from "Peter Piper" of The Piper Press (fictional publisher) about publishing her story, plus the miniature booklet Cinderella: The Story of a Fairytale Princess. -The solicitor's letter from "Meeny, Miny, Mo & Co." to Mr Wolf regarding Miss Riding-Hood and Grandma. -Goldilocks' colorful birthday card Why This Book Is Special The Jolly Postman took five years to develop due to its complex production (real envelopes and inserts). It revolutionized children's publishing by blending story with physical mail that readers can take out and read. It has sold over six million copies worldwide and remains a landmark in interactive picture books. Awards include the Kate Greenaway Medal, the Emil/Kurt Maschler Award, and the Children's Book Award 1986. It inspired sequels like The Jolly Christmas Postman and The Jolly Pocket Postman. Janet Ahlberg's warm, detailed watercolour illustrations are full of humour, hidden jokes, and nostalgic charm. Allan Ahlberg's witty verse perfectly captures the fairy-tale world while introducing children to the fun of letters and correspondence. This Heinemann edition preserves the original paper quality, envelope design, and tactile experience that later reprints sometimes compromise. Background on the Creators Janet Ahlberg (1944-1994) was an acclaimed illustrator whose work brought whimsy and warmth to dozens of books. Allan Ahlberg (1938-2025), a former teacher, wrote over 150 children's titles. Together they created enduring classics like Each Peach Pear Plum and Peepo! The Jolly Postman is widely regarded as their masterpiece. Collector Notes Complete copies with the full Cinderella envelope set and all inserts intact are increasingly sought after. Later reprints like this one are more affordable than scarce true 1986 first printings but still deliver the full original experience. This is an excellent example for someone who wants to enjoy the book as it was meant to be read ? with all the letters! N° de réf. du vendeur ABE-1780672768046
