Tightly bound with faint thumb-marking throughout. Pencil inscription to front endpaper. Boards have light edgewear with corner crushing. Notable tanning to board edges and spine, which has mild crushing to ends. Clipped jacket has moderate edgewear with chips, tears, and creasing. Mild foxing and droplet marks to surfaces. Heavy tanning to spine and to panel edges. Light rubbing and marking all over.

In the Oxford Companion to Children's Literature it says of James Reeves, 'His real achievement, however, lies in his poetry, which is generally regarded as the best British "serious" children's verse since Walter de la Mare - though the poems are usually far from serious in subject-matter.' Illustrated by Edward Ardizzone. Jacket has faults - namely edge/shelf wear, a little patchy loss (mainly to head/tail of spine and to corners), few tears, scratch/scrape to back, pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine, the odd small mark, little pushing/bumping to corners, the odd small crease/rub to edges, browning to reverse (white side) and is in only fair condition. Boards are very good (having been well protected by the jacket) with minor pushing/bumping to corners, one scratch to back and a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Previous owner's name in pen to front end-paper. Pages bit tanned. Top of pages have the odd small mark/minor foxing.
