Synopsis

After the Second World War South Africa is torn apart by fears and hatreds more complex than those dividing black from white.
Any opponent of white rule is regarded as an enemy of the loyal and devout Afrikaner, so when Andries Hartzenberg brings an English bride home to his farm in the Eastern Transvaal he is branded a traitor to the volk. The mismatch has tragic repercussions. In the ensuing decades of racial and political conflict the family is sucked into a self-destructive spiral of violence and betrayal.
'All is for nothing' is the bitter verdict of many Afrikaners in this brutal society. But W.P.B. Botha shows that with courage and determination the foundations of a better future can he built on the ruins of a terrible past.
