Synopsis
The average undergraduate paediatrics course is six weeks. Students are tested at the end of the course and at finals. "Essential Paediatrics" aims to provide, through text and illustrations combined, all the information they will need. This textbook is found on many recommended reading lists in the UK. It maintains its innovative design, including some new colour photographs where the subject matter demands it (skin, eyes). The new Crown Quarto format gives more flexibility in the use of illustrations. The section on AIDS and child abuse is extended. The appendices have been specially designed for quick reference.

This textbook is aimed at medical students during their paediatric clinical rotation. Emphasis is given to the common disorders of children and their differential diagnosis and management. The book is largely organised by system. It is profusely illustrated throughout with two-colour line drawings and, for the chapter on the skin, with full colour clinical photographs.
