Synopsis

Plastic surgery has greatly influenced the progress of other specialties, extended its scope through development of new fields such as Craniofacial surgery, musculocutaneous flaps and tissue expansion, while increasing the standards of Aesthetic Surgery. Aesthetic surgery is unsatisfactory if function is not improved, whenever indicated. The satisfactory repair of anatomy and function is incomplete without restoration of the aesthetic appearance. Both branches complement each other and the advancements achieved in both have shown a mutual positive influence. For the above mentioned congress, the standard "State of the Art" Lectures were replaced by Lecture sessions with 3 to 5 outstanding colleagues in each field, to allow coverage of a wider scope of Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgery. Each Session was followed by a Round Table. There were 22 panels with 4 to 7 participants, in the last sessions of each day, to cover specific subjects of current interest, followed by discussion with participation of the audience. The second pillar of the Scientific Program consisted of Free Paper sessions. In total, over 600 papers were submitted and a selective video program was organized, with younger colleagues in mind. The large amount of information provided made it necessary to publish 2 books, as it was decided to also include the Panel contributions. A summary of the various topics covered is provided hereunder.
