Management of head and neck cancer continues to evolve at a rapid pace. The 3rd International Conference on Head and Neck Surgery reflected the state of the art as it is currently practiced worldwide. Over 1200 attendees from around the globe contributed to the success of the meeting. The programme was developed to address the entire scope of head and neck cancer. The multi-disciplinary approach to all phases of this clinical problem must be carefully integrated in order to afford ideal care of the patient and so that maximum benefit may be realized from innovative research projects. This text aims to provide the reader with all of this information in a single volume. Topics covered include areas such as adjuvant chemotherapy, biologic modifiers and host responses, and molecular biologic aspects of the oncogenic process. Chemoprevention of the carcinogenetic process, salvage of initial treatment failures, and salivary gland carcinoma are also examined. Special sections address tumours of the skull base as well as tumours of the nasopharynx and oral cavity. Mandibular preservation versus resection and reconstruction, current modalities in radiation therapy, and management of carcinoma of the paranasal sinuses are also presented.
