Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. 1st Edition. Near Fine/ Near Fine Jacket in mylar. First edition of Sidney M. Bolkosky's scholarly study of German Jewish perceptions of German society, national identity, and culture during the years following World War I and the rise of National Socialism. The work examines the complicated relationship between Jewish identity, assimilation, German patriotism, political instability, and growing antisemitism from 1918 through 1935. Published by Elsevier Scientific Publishing Company, the volume includes a bibliography and index. The copyright page lists the principal subjects as the history of Jews in Germany and German politics and government during the Weimar period. The book retains its striking original typographic dust jacket, designed by Loretta Li. Condition: Black cloth-covered boards remain clean and firmly bound, with light shelf wear. Interior pages appear clean and lightly age-toned. A large custom bookplate reading "Personal Library of Norton J. Lehman" is affixed to the front pastedown. The original dust jacket shows noticeable rubbing and surface scuffing, particularly to the dark areas, with light edge wear, small nicks, minor creasing, and a few short closed tears. No substantial loss is visible. Please review the photographs, which form an important part of the condition description. A useful and increasingly relevant scholarly work for collections devoted to Judaica, German Jewish history, the Weimar Republic, Jewish assimilation and identity, antisemitism, modern European history, and the historical background to the Holocaust.
