Judith S. Wallerstein, an internationally renowned expert on marriage and divorce, is principal investigator of the Children of Divorce Project. She is the founder of the Center for the Family in Transition, in Corte Madera, California, and the author of the bestselling Second Chances, a follow-up study of the same families in this book ten years after divorce. Her most recent book is The Good Marriage.
Joan B. Kelly, co-principal director of the Children of Divorce Project from its inception until 1980, is known internationally for her research, articles, and presentations in the divorce, custody, and mediation areas. She is a past president of the Academy of Family Mediators and is executive director of the Northern California Mediation Center in Corte Madera, California.
Based on the Children of Divorce Project, a landmark study of sixty families during the first five years after divorce, this enlightening and humane modern classic altered the conventional wisdom on the short- and long-term effects of family dissolution.
