Synopsis

Interactions is a series of CD-ROMs (or DVD) focusing on the examination of physiological processes within each system of the body, using animations and interactivity to enhance student understanding.  There is a great deal more to Interactions than your usual A&P CD-ROM.  At the heart of Interactions is a focus on core principles – homeostasis; communication; energy flow; fluid flow; and boundaries – that underscore the key relationships between structure and function as well as interrelationships between systems.  It is the reinforcement of these fundamental organizing principles, to which a variety of processes and concepts for each system is attached, that sets this series of CDs apart from others.

There are nine CDs in the series.  These include:

  • Foundations
  • Regulations: The Nervous and Endocrine Systems
  • Support and Movement: The Skeletal and Muscular Systems
  • Distribution: The Cardiovascular and Lymphatic Systems
  • Disease Resistance: The Integumentary, Lymphatic and Immune Systems
  • Energy Acquisition and Use: The Digestive System and Metabolism
  • Gas Exchange and pH Balance:  The Respiratory System
  • Balancing Fluids and pH: The Urinary System
  • Continuity: The Reproductive System and Development

Présentation de l'éditeur

∗ Animations –– Key physiological processes are brought to life. The CD contains a number of animations that help studentscomprehend key processes that change over time. The animations inFoundations are focused on cellular and molecular processes.
∗ Anatomy Reviews – Illustrations, histology, and cadaverphotographs linked to function. These reviews aid studentunderstanding of the processes and the anatomical features that areimportant in these processes.
∗ Interactive Exercises –– Relate to the animations and activelyreinforce knowledge that has previously been studied. Theseexercises help reinforce critical thinking and problem solvingskills. These exercises also present the students with a usefultool for gauging their understanding of the importantconcepts.
∗ Clinical Correlations – Provide relevancy to concepts andcontent. Not found in other software programs this extremelyhelpful to those students who are going on to study for aprofession in allied health. This helps the students relate to theconcepts they are studying.
∗ Concept Maps and Links – Promotes critical thinking – linkcontent to the big picture. Not found in other programs, this helpsstudents develop key problem solving skills
∗ Flexible Navigation – Dynamic tools allowing quick access tocontent the way you want it. The program is designed to let theuser access the exact content when they need it.
∗ A number of Functionality tools including Presentation Values andTools, a Notebook Feature and links to course websites, Blackboardor WebCT.
∗ Quality, Consistent, Solid Content – Written by instructors whohave decades of experience teaching Anatomy and Physiology. Theseauthors continue to teach and are familiar with the needs oftoday′s students.
∗ Authoritative and Innovative Art Program – illustrated by medicalillustrators and not just graphic artists. This is reflected in thehigh attention to detail and the intricacies found at the cellularand molecular level.
